Limerick Township is pleased to announce an award received from Delaware Valley Trusts for their 2018 Risk Management Innovation Award recognized for incorporating security elements into the Township's New Administration/Police Building. Delaware Valley Workers’ Compensation Trust, under the Delaware Valley Trusts umbrella, is a municipal trust which provides workers’ compensation insurance coverage to Limerick and many other municipal entities. A focus on workplace safety and training to protect Limerick’s workforce and reduce insurance premiums is a key objective of the DVT organization.
Having outgrown the under-sized and functionally obsolete former Township Building, the Board of Supervisors approved a Building Committee consisting of members from every department to work in conjunction with KCBA, an architectural firm from Hatfield, PA, to design and construct a state-of-the-art public building that would blend architecture with efficiency, accessibility, and best security practices.
DVT has noted that the new Limerick Township Municipal Building has now created a new standard by which other municipalities can follow.
The new Limerick Township Building was recognized by DVT for innovative security features including obscured sight lines into the police department, ballistic glazing on all public transaction windows, and active shooter protection incorporated into the public meeting room.
As a result of winning this award, the Township Staff was treated to a catered luncheon in recognition of the project and the Township received a prize of $1,000 to be used for a future risk management initiative, and a recognition plaque. Supervisor Kara Shuler and Supervisor Kenneth W. Sperring, Jr. were in attendance for the luncheon and accepted the DVT award on behalf of the Township from Peter Erndwein, Director of Risk Control for Delaware Valley Trust.
